Media Studies

Overview

The Media Studies course introduces students in a practical and accessible way to a wide range of media techniques whether students are interested in Journalism, Radio Production or Photography. They will get a chance to explore these through guided practice. Students receive hands-on training in the studio and on location, as well as in the darkroom and with the computer.

The whole course is based on practical work with lectures and demonstrations fully interspersed with student projects and fieldwork.

Programme Structure

This course may be taken over a 1 or 2 year period. The certifying body is FETAC. Previous FETAC awards may be combined with additional subjects to achieve an overall award.

Career Prospects

This course prepares students to go directly into the media as junior journalists, radio or sound engineers or as assistant photographers. It can also be used as a stepping-stone to the various media courses in Ireland or abroad.
