Design Technology

Overview

Design Technology is concerned with the use of computers in making visual images and using text to communicate. We are surrounded everyday by the products of Design Technology, e.g., Web Sites, Commercial signs and graphics, private and interior designs, entertainment images, etc.

The course may suit those who already have an IT, art, design or business background, but who need to upgrade their skills and gain certification in a range of Computer Graphics Applications.

Programme Structure

This course may be taken over a 1-year or a 2-year period. The certifying body is FETAC. Previous FETAC awards may be combined with additional subjects to achieve an overall award.

Career Prospects

This course prepares the student for a range of vocational employment including advertising, printing, photography, interior and web design. On the other hand, some students may use their time on the course to prepare portfolios of their work prior to moving on to higher education
