Scholarships and Grants
City of Galway Vocational Education Committee administers three Grants Schemes on behalf of the Department of Education and Science for Galway City. We offer financial assistance to eligible students attending approved courses. Students entering approved courses for the first time are, generally speaking, eligible for grants where they satisfy the relevant conditions as to age, residence, means, nationality and previous academic attainment.
Students may apply to City of Galway VEC if they/their parents are resident in the City of Galway VEC Administrative area at the time of application for their grant.
The three Grants Schemes administered by City of Galway VEC are:
VEC Scholarship Scheme (VEC Scholarships) for students attending:
- Honours Degree and Post Graduate Courses at Institutes of Technology
- Honours Degree and Post Graduate Courses at Universities in Ireland for students who have already obtained a Higher Certificate or Ordinary Degree
- Degree Courses in Universities in other EU Member States for students who have already obtained a Higher Certificate or Ordinary Degree
Third Level Maintenance Grants Scheme for Trainees (TLT) for students attending:
- Higher Certificate and Ordinary Degree at Institutes of Technology.
Maintenance Grants Scheme for Post Leaving Certificate Courses (PLC) for students attending:
