City of Galway VEC Access Officer
As legislated for in the Disability Act 2005, the appointed Access Officer for City of Galway VEC is Orla O’Neill. She is available to help you with any queries that you might have or assistance you may require in relation to the accessibility of information and services provided by City of Galway VEC. The Role of the Access Officer
To develop, support, co-ordinate and monitor the implementation of an access programme, including:
- An audit of City of Galway VEC buildings.
- Provision of support and expert advice.
- Arrangements to respond to deal with requests for assistance.
- Training of staff.
- Provision of information in an accessible format.
- Advise senior management if not compliant with the Disability Act 2005.
- Recommend actions to improve accessibility.
- Draft a guide to services of City of Galway VEC for student with disabilities.
- Draft policies and procedures to support the implementation of legislation in relation to disability.
- Prepare funding submissions for resources in relation to disability.
- Design an induction programme for students with disabilities.
- Design an induction programme for special needs assistants, personal assistants etc.
- Establish and chair a disability and accessibility committee for the City of Galway VEC.
