Community Education Network
Terms of Reference
Vision:
To be a collective voice on the development of community education activities in Galway City and on a regional, national and international level
Aims:
- To develop community education activities in line with the needs of community education groups locally
- To advise the work of the Community Education Facilitator
- To initiate new activities and events in community education
- To support the development of community education groups in Galway City
Format for Network/Advisory:
All groups funded under the Community Education Grants Scheme of City of Galway VEC are welcome to participate in the Group. The Network/Advisory will have a maximum of two members per community education group. The Network/Advisory will have a minimum of 3 meetings per year. In very special circumstances extra meetings will be called to discuss specific topics as necessary. The meetings will be organised by the Community Education Facilitator and hosted by the VEC in various locations across the city. An agenda should be set in advance for the meeting; this can be circulated to a few pre-determined members to ensure it covers all the necessary points. Additions may be made to an agenda in advance of any meeting.
Task Groups:
The group will function mainly through the use of task groups based around specific tasks to be completed. These will be established at the end of each meeting and worked out with the members of the task group. This may involve a phone call, email and in some cases a short meeting. These tasks will change from time to time but some will remain constant on the agenda.
Meetings:
A rotating chair from within the group would be useful and where necessary a facilitator can be employed to assist the group in progressing issues where necessary. The meetings should last no longer than 2.5 hours. The timing of meetings will be set so as to suit the vast majority of current members. The timing of meetings may change in order to maintain peoples participation in the meetings.
Decisions:
All decisions of the Network/Advisory will be made where possible by consensus within the group. If no clear consensus emerges then a vote will be called by show of hands to accept of dismiss a proposal. All proposals must first be proposed and seconded by a member group in order to be discussed.
