What is Back To Education Initiative?

The overall function of the BTEI Programme is to increase the participation of young people and adults with less than upper secondary education in a range of flexible learning opportunities.

Will the course be certified?

Yes. The course will carry certification with it; it is up to the individual participant if he/she wishes to pursue accreditation. All participants are supported to seek accreditation.

Who can participate in courses?

Any person who has left full-time education can apply to take part in a BTEI course. However, priority will be given to people with less than a Leaving Certificate standard of education.

What kind of courses are offered?

This varies from year to year depending on demand for courses and the funding available. There are courses in Computers, Communication Skills, Personal Development, Horticulture, Cookery and Childcare.

When are courses available?

Courses are arranged to meet the particular needs of participants and can be offered in the mornings, afternoons, evenings or weekends.

Will I have fees?

Courses are free to holders of medical cards and their dependants along with persons on Unemployment Payments or Means Tested Benefit and adults with less than Leaving Certificate standard of education. All others pay the full tuition costs.

Will I be paid while attending a BTEI course?

Students in receipt of a Social Welfare payment prior to joining a course will continue to receive their payments in the normal way.
